New Rip Off Contest Hemingway once wrote a story in just six words: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn.". WIRED magazine has submissions from various writers trying to emulate this task. Some are better than others, but here's a couple of my favorites (partly because of who the writer is): - Kevin Smith Weeping, Bush misheard Cheney’s deathbed advice. - Gregory Maguire Gown removed carelessly. Head, less so. - Joss Whedon Leia: "Baby's yours." Luke: "Bad news…" - Steven Meretzky Gorilla rape doesn't end as planned. - Matt Ho Link to this article Posted at 07:13:57 AM EST by copus
Restoration I think RSS is finally restored now... after a month of nobody noticing... Link to this article Posted at 06:49:22 AM EST by copus Associative Disorder Yesterday, one of the offices I worked in smelled like summer sausage. Nobody else could smell it, though. Last night, my sweaty feet smelled like popcorn. Is this some sort of associative disorder, or should I stop soaking my feet in movie theater butter before I go to work? Goobernatorialness The most surprising thing I read in this article about Ted Strickland dominating Ken Blackwell in the polls was not that the lead in the race for the next Ohio Governor was so large. The surprise was that the current Governor Bob Taft has an 11% approval rating. Eleven percent? If we resurrected Richard Nixon and made him a Zombie Governor (for some hypothetical reason I am not attempting.... no, really), he would have a better than 11% approval rating. At least, he'd better, if Zombie Nixon knows what's good for him. No brains for Zombie Nixon without a middle class tax cut! Link to this article Posted at 07:24:19 PM EST by copus

Signs of the End of the World I heard today that the OSU-Indiana game isn't going to be televised. At first, I was sort of excited, because I'm going to the game and that would mean it would pass much more quickly without TV breaks. The radio-only breaks would be relatively short. Then I read that it's going to be on ESPNU. So, it will still have commercial breaks, but most Time Warner customers won't be able to watch it. Link to this article Posted at 09:31:06 PM EST by copus
Hockey Pessimism Not that I'm a hockey pessimist, but I thought I would revel in this for a bit...

Why Kirk Herbstreit Rules Just after halftime of the NC State-FSU game: Some chalkboard full of high school algebra is shown. Everyone makes comments or jokes about how complicated that all that "math" is. Chris Fowler asks Herbie if that's what his game plans looked like at OSU. His response? "Naw, we used calculus, that's how we rolled." Link to this article Posted at 09:47:14 PM EST by copus
