Fan Mail Something weird is afoot, thanks to tweaks in Yahoo!'s image search. I have had over five gigabytes of stuff downloaded from my site in the last couple of days. It was a weird spike that resulted in nearly 40,000 hits in a 24 hour period. I think it all has to do with the sixth result on this page. Well, *currently* the sixth result. The traffic is dying down a bit, now, but it was kind of neat to see. Strangely enough, during this traffic spike I got my first email from a reader that didn't involve stock spam, death threats, or genealogy questions: Just wanted to say hello and thank you for making me smile this afternoon. I read it a couple of times. Nope, no death threats. No automated offers for Viagra or penny stocks. No questions about my great-great-great-great grandfather. I made someone smile without losing a lawsuit or slipping on a banana peel.... Awwww.... Link to this article Posted at 10:04:20 PM EST by copus
Ripped Up Like a Douche The Vacant Lot was an amazing sketch comedy group that only made about 6 episodes on the CBC before they were canceled. So goes much of the best comedy in this world: Also notable was their music: Slept On His Arms and Pamper Me (Put Me In Diapers). Link to this article Posted at 02:54:45 PM EST by copus
Archie does Akron I didn't realize that there were still Archie comics being made, but the 2nd Annual National Hamburger Festival will be featured in an Archie comic book. Yay? All I know is that I never met Archie or Jughead when I went to high school. Hmmm... I just noticed that my school system website front page has the school picture made up of separate photos that are vaguely in the shape of a swastika. Interesting, creepy, and at some level a bit appropriate. Link to this article Posted at 11:16:44 PM EST by copus
Paul R Famous My childhood (and college, for that matter) friend Paul Hornschemeier was written up in the Chicago Tribune this week. It's not necessarily a mark of fame to be written up in the Tribune, but it might be a mark of fame to be considered "notable" to have a Wikipedia entry. And not have it deleted within five minutes. Cobra Commander Quotes Chomsky Cobra Commander quoting Chomsky, abortion robots, Megatron's anti-prayer policy... this video has EVERYTHING. And still somehow this rapes my childhood memories. Link to this article Posted at 09:12:34 PM EST by copus
If I had a Hammock I bought a hammock last weekend. The hot weather prevented me from spending much time lounging on it, but that didn't stop my models from showing it off: ![]() ![]() Today I slept for about two hours on the hammock. A chipmunk crawled under me at one point, until it realized I was alive and sped back into my retaining wall. A squirrel with a hunk of bread in its mouth also made a foray into my personal space. Infamy There have been a couple dozen people that have been hired on at our facility recently. I went to lunch with one of them the other day, and he mentioned he went to Ohio State in Electrical Engineering for grad school. I asked him who is advisor was. He had the same advisor as I did! Then he asked, "Is your name James Copus?" Uh.... Apparently the poor guy was assigned to read my thesis at some point. That probably makes him the only person besides me to ever attempt to read it. And the effort was traumatic enough that he remembered my name. Poor sucker. Link to this article Posted at 07:58:23 AM EST by copus
Baby at the Brewery First, one of my friends takes his baby to the bar. Now, Andrew and Allison come to town and take their baby to the brewery: ![]() The Great Lakes Brewery, that is. Now I just need to figure out which friend is going to take their baby to the strip club with them, or possibly the crack house. I hear they have tons of stuff for kids.
