Ask and Tell Just to clear things up, I have *not* been recently discharged from the military for being gay. I'm not in the military, I don't know Arabic, and I suck at theater. And my name isn't spelled quite that way. Oh, and I'm not gay, just so you know. Link to this article Posted at 09:22:08 PM EST by copus
Minor League Football So, finally, the football gods have listened to me. There is now a push to create a college-affiliated minor football league. I've been arguing for this for years. Of course, my argument was that this should be an outlet for those uninterested in a college education. This plan calls for only players with college degrees to participate. I know talented ENGINEERS without college degrees, but football is too complicated for those without their bachelor's degree. I do like the idea of holding games in college stadiums. At least I'm out of college, so I don't have to worry about campus being packed with fans while I'm trying to get to classrooms and labs. You *know* Columbus will be obsessed with a local team like that. Anyway, thanks to those who showed up to my party last weekend:

Best of Akron... two years ago. I found a neat article about the "must do" things for an Akroner... Akronite... Akronian? Anyway, I definitely need to stop by Luigi's sometime. I just hope his brother Mario doesn't try to hit me with his racoon tail or spit fireballs at me. Link to this article Posted at 09:08:20 PM EST by copus
Change is afoot NFL training camp starts this week. College camps start up soon. It's about time to explode with sheer anticipation. I'm glad the M*ch*g*n game is at home this year, but I am still pretty sure I'll have another series of heart attacks sometime this season. Link to this article Posted at 10:14:21 PM EST by copus
Murray Mania I've been experimenting with skunk repellants lately in an attempt to convince a certain stinky neighbor to visit less frequently (no offense, Baker). This stuff is also supposed to repel groundhogs, but judging from a visit from my new pet, I don't hold out much hope for getting rid of the skunk:
I'll try and snap a pic or two of a couple of Canadian visitors who got their education at Kent. Link to this article Posted at 09:14:32 PM EST by copus
Productivicious My phone woke me up about two hours before I planned on waking this morning. I stumbled towards the phone, and almost broke my leg because it was asleep. It was the plumber, asking if he could stop by early. Sure, why not? He stopped by, and we found out the leak was coming directly from the dishwasher, which he wouldn't fix. He also noticed that there was a rust hole in the big master drain. The home warranty company said that was pre-existing and wouldn't cover it. Great. Rather than try to convince the warranty company that the dishwasher problem was not pre-existing, I decided to fix that myself. So, I ended up paying the plumber $65 NOT to do anything to my house. I need to become a plumber. Luckily, I was able to fix the dishwasher for about $8 worth of parts and some busted up hands. That was a productive day. But I wasn't done. I finished cleaning up my apartment and turned in the keys to an apartment manager. Oh, wait, I also picked up a coffee table and end tables, and spent hours and hours putting them together. At least they look relatively nice: ![]() It's amazing how productive I can be when I stay in town for the weekend and some of my friends *don't*. Your source of self-destruction In conversation last night, we got into a discussion that mostly consisted of making jokes about the fact that the local bar plays Master of Puppets multiple times each time we show up. And my witty counterparts used the art of the pun to make jokes about Pastors of Muppets. Which logically leads to this picture: Of course, nothing is original in this world. It appears there's a font face with the same name and even some sort of theater group. Who would have thought something as complex and esoteric as the PUN would be so prevalent? Oh, right... House Party Update I sent out well over 60 party emails and invitations (I actually need to call a couple of people and invite them, since email is not universal). Actually, if I have *not* invited you, the party is on July 29th, so let me know if you can or cannot come. So far, I have 17 confirmations, not including one dog that will apparently be spending the night. I have 7 "Maybe's" or "Probably's" of whom I give slightly better than even odds of half of them attending. And I have 9 No's, Nyet's, and Crawl-in-a-hole-and-die's. That still leaves about half the invites to respond. And, remember, people that don't R.S.V.P. are worse than Hitler. Link to this article Posted at 10:19:52 PM EST by copus
Furniture Fun My house is actually starting to look like a real human being lives in it. I mean, sort of a real human being. Link to this article Posted at 03:34:25 PM EST by copus
Water Water Everywhere Well, my dishwasher is officially unusable: Water comes out the front of the dishwasher and leaks across the kitchen floor, but mostly into the basement. I guess it's time to call a plumber. I'm not quite sure why the water coming into the basement is brown. I don't think the dishes were THAT dirty, and the water pouring into the kitchen is fine. Any clues? Link to this article Posted at 07:57:03 AM EST by copus
No Net When I moved, I knew I was still under contract for SBC/ATT/Yahoo/Prodigy/Ameritech or whatever they're calling their DSL service these days. They told me the DSL service would move with me, but maybe lag behind in changing with the phone service by about "a day." Well, not they're telling me my service won't get activated until the 17th. That's more than "a day." That's more like 11 days. I knew I should have gone with Time Warner's RoadRunner.... Link to this article Posted at 01:50:27 PM EST by copus
Sweet Victory As I was dropping off groceries tonight at my new house for a Saturday cookout, I heard a strange mechanical wailing sound coming from outside. And then I heard a truck that looked vaguely like this: ![]() Yay, Fairlawn apparently sprays for mosquitos. I was surprised that I didn't get bitten at all when I mowed last week. Now all I have to be worried about is the skunk that wanders around the neighborhood. And all my neighbors have to worry about is me wandering around the neighborhood. Link to this article Posted at 10:25:51 PM EST by copus Breaking and Entering A funny thing happened on the way to take a look at my air conditioner tonight. I couldn't get the air to kick on (it turns out the previous owner had disabled it from the breaker box) and it was nearing 80 degrees in the house. I walked out the back door and the back door shut behind me. When I turned around to go back inside, I noticed that the back door automatically locked. Dammit! My keys, cell phone, and wallet were still inside. Well, I don't really like my front door that much. How about I take a brick and throw it through the front door window? Success! I shall have to take some photos and post them regarding this fiasco. The moral of the story is not that I should take better care of where I put my keys. The moral of the story is that it is far too easy to break into my house. Link to this article Posted at 12:47:55 AM EST by copus
