Room Paint Posse Thanks to these guys:
and some careful effort:
my pink bedroom is now white:
Up next: finishing the rewiring of all the electrical outlets (and drilling larger holes in the plaster to fit the larger outlets). Unfortunately, it appears all my upstairs outlets will be ungrounded, unless I manage to rewire all the electrical conduits with a ground wire. Ick. Future Evil EE Lair Yet again, Boing Boing made my day. Some guy in the Bronx has an underground lair where he teaches free electrical engineering classes. Since so many of my friends keep stealing my post-nervous breakdown plan of culinary school, this sounds like a good backup plan. Now I just need a lair three stories below the ground to cultivate my electrical engineering curriculum. Link to this article Posted at 11:02:54 PM EST by copus
Minor League Mayhem I want to do this at my job someday. That was possibly one of the strangest tantrums I've ever seen. Oh, by the way, I got the keys to my house today. Now, you'll get to read more excruciating details about cleaning and wiring and stuff than you ever dreamed. At least those of you who don't see me on a daily basis don't have to hear it, too. The Boston Mills Art Fest was last weekend and this upcoming weekend. It was a tragedy that the recent storms flooded out a lot of the artists and ruined their works and income. I guess next year those artists will learn to use waterproof materials, or at least work on art that FLOATS. Link to this article Posted at 06:38:30 AM EST by copus
Reunionification My ten year high school class reunion was last weekend. It was a lot of fun, although I'm sure I can easily wait another ten years to see some of them. I already keep in touch with most of the people I want to keep in touch with. And it turns out that a few of my classmates live in the Akron/Cleveland area, so I might actually see more of them. Here are some interesting facts obtained from the reunion: - My Photo Tour of Mount Blanchard has been making the rounds of some of my classmates' companies, despite the fact it hasn't been updated in 9 years and contains mostly incorrect information. Their one complaint was that the pictures were old. Well, send me new ones if you want it updated. - Many of my classmates are divorced, some more than once. Also, there are many people in my class with 3+ kids. Wow, I've got some catching up to do. - Many of my classmates have pretty cool jobs. Most do not. A surprising number of us spend our time doing some sort of software development. - I'm rather glad I don't live in the country, as much fun as it is to visit. It takes a long time to get anywhere. - I was told to "get into missiles and satellites and stuff" so I can be a congressional advisor. Ummm... what? - Nobody wore Yoda on their back to help train them in the ways of the Force, or to store their knick knacks. This was a shame. Link to this article Posted at 06:11:29 AM EST by copus
Tentative Plans for those who CARE Here are my rough current plans for this whole new "permanent housing" thing. On Wednesday, I think I'm supposed to get the keys (I should probably check on this). As I go back and forth doing work on the house, I'll load up my car with small stuff, so that it doesn't have to be moved on the actual moving day. Minor Repair Phase On the weekend of July 4th, I'll be painting the master bedroom (I think the pink bedroom would have a deleterious effect on my psyche). I'll also be marking the new electrical breaker box, which might be important or something. Then, it will be lots of replacing and/or rewiring reverse-polarized outlets. If you're in Akron and bored, you can help and/or watch. Move-In Day The weekend after July 4th, with the help of a loyal group of volunteers, I'll be renting a U-Haul and moving the big stuff. This shouldn't take that long, assuming that enough people help out and nothing catches on fire. Speaking of fire, I'll be buying burgers and booze and stuff after the move to celebrate the fun-ness of the process of moving. Housewarming Tentatively on the 29th of Link to this article Posted at 07:45:22 PM EST by copus
Passed Out Guy Walking back from my garage to my apartment tonight, I almost tripped over a guy completely passed out on the sidewalk. This is not the first time it has happened.... Only five more days until I have a house... Link to this article Posted at 12:48:05 AM EST by copus
Kewl Trix Boing Boing shows the coolest stuff. This should be taught to every child: How to open a bottle of beer using another bottle of beer. The best part is that when you run out of bottles, how do you open the last bottle? BUY MORE! In other news, I've got a week left of worry-free apartment living. Soon, I'll start a month of worry-free apartment living combined with worry-full home ownership. On the bright side, I can take a whole month to move my stuff out of my apartment. The 11th Commandment probably involves LEGOS Ok, I don't remember where I first saw this, but The Brick Testament is good stuff. Anything mixing religion and Legos can't go wrong... well, except for maybe the Old Testament's law against Beastiality. There's also some good advice on when to stone your whole family. Ah, those kooky Laws. Link to this article Posted at 06:57:36 PM EST by copus
Unexpected Again So, I got the "we didn't expect you" phrase from multiple people on this work trip... again. I'm not quite sure what that happens. However, I did here a great quote from one of their pilots: "I don't mind FLIRTING with disaster, I just don't like SCORING." Pilots are funny. Link to this article Posted at 09:12:49 PM EST by copus
Good Impressions Conversation of the night: Setup: About eight of us from work went bowling after work tonight. After a relatively rare strike, I did a slightly more mobile variation of my White James Dance. Hilarity ensued: Me, explaining to newbies what I just performed: "Oh, that was a my Incomparable White James Bowling Dance" Female Coop:"I... don't... like... James" She spent the next few minutes trying to explain how she was somehow actually referring to LeBron, not I. My friends spent the next few minutes explaining why she shouldn't like me... in detail. (By the way, I'll be in St. Louis off and on for the next week or so. That means I'll either not be posting at all for awhile, or be constantly online and bored.) Link to this article Posted at 10:28:36 PM EST by copus
Chemical and Musical Weaponry The 614 had an article about the trademark fight over the term "Ohio" between Ohio State and Ohio U. What is really interesting is the is a really poor quality video on YouTube about the fight produced by The Today Show. In fact, the video is so out of sync with the audio that it's barely watchable. You can at least hear my golden voice (along with about 80 other guys) singing along with the Men's Glee Club. I'm not sure if my face is in it, but you couldn't tell anyway. I think I know someone with a better copy of that, so I might get the chance to post a watchable version someday. Also, for those of you who are not impressed by silly trademark fights, read this fascinating paper about the U.S. Disposal of Chemical Weapons in the Ocean. I am shocked an appalled that Lake Erie was completely snubbed in favor of those snobby easterners! We deserve VX nerve gas and mustard gas in our water supply just as much as they do! Cleveland Roller Derby In a note related to my ever-so-insightful Guide to Minor League Akron Sports, I just read about the possible sport to trump them all: ROLLER DERBY! Another Akron blogger has the details. This will be even better than one of Ali's jello and/or applesauce wrestling parties. Hmmmm... maybe "better" is a strong word. I think "violent" is more appropriate. Link to this article Posted at 08:40:39 PM EST by copus
FOR GREAT JUSTICE OSU President Karen Holbrook is STEPPING DOWN. That's right. She was the only OSU President in my memory to have T-Shirts referring to her sold on High Street. As the OhioStateOnline blog mentions, she wasn't exactly a "popular" figure on campus. Even the people I knew who dealt with her personally didn't seem to have a great opinion of her. Since her position will open in 2007, I've decided to beef up my resume in an attempt to solidify my inside track to become the next President of The Ohio State University. Any suggestions? Surprise Trip I came into work this morning and found out that I had to fly out to Blacksburg, Virginia this afternoon. Neato. I could have driven the 6+ hours, or flown and driven a total of 6+ hours on a two-stop flight and a 45 minute drive to the hotel. Well, at least I can sleep on the plane. At least I'll get to take the journey home tomorrow afternoon. Link to this article Posted at 02:36:26 PM EST by copus

Scramble I played my first golf scramble this weekend at Roses Run, which was by far the longest and hardest course I've played to date. My only real highlight of the day was getting the golf cart stuck in the mud a hillside. My golf prowess was no better than my driving. All in all, it was a fun time, though. I'm not sure it should take FIVE HOURS to play a round, though. Link to this article Posted at 10:45:53 AM EST by copus
