Pure of heart, but bad at taxes. Whoever tells a lie cannot be pure in heart -- and only the pure in heart can make a good soup. -- Ludwig Van Beethoven I make a pretty good chili.... ... but somehow I decided that 3100 * 1 = 6200. The result of this is that I now owe $679.28 *more* Federal Income Taxes from last year. At this rate, I shall *never* raise enough money for a down payment on a house. So, in the ongoing saga of my car getting repeatedly damaged, another new chapter arrived today. Despite the fact that I was rear-ended while parking in my garage, I received a letter from the other driver's insurance company. Somehow, they have determined that my "own actions were found to be the proximate cause" off the accident. I think I now understand why people go on killing rampages. On a lighter note, here are some pretty cool pictures of childhood sketches of monsters that were then touched up a bit by an artist. Oh, and my chili turned out pretty well. Which is good, because I have enough of it to last me *at least* a week. Posted at 07:10:40 PM EST by copus
Soaking Kidney Beans Well, I guess I'll start posting again since I'm back from St. Louis. Not a whole lot to say about the trip, except that next time I'll probably bring my own laptop to play with. Oh, and the new Mustang GT is pretty sweet, but the layout of the interior makes me feel like I'm a little child. A *short* little child. I guess I should do a little better planning before I decide to make chili with uncooked kidney beans. I didn't think the beans had to be soaked "overnight" before cooking them. I guess I'll try 4 or 5 hours and then cook them. We'll see how my soon-to-be-famous recipe turns out. Posted at 03:48:26 PM EST by copus
I want your Zex I ran into an article about The Junior Christian Science Bible Lesson Show. My first thought was, "This is where Damon Zex special effects and production values. (By the way, I'm surprised Mr. Zex survived the end of public access television in Columbus.) Anyway, there are supposedly 12,000 episodes of this Junior Christian Science Bible Lesson Show. I am certain that fewer than 12,000 people ever seriously watched that show.... well, excluding people who were drunk or stoned. Posted at 10:59:44 PM EST by copus
The bowl of petunias just thought, My rear bumper has been damaged AGAIN. This is the THIRD TIME I have had to repair the back end of my car. Even worse, this time I was parking my car in my garage when someone backed out of a her parking space facing my garage door. Great. Well, at least I can't blame Ali or Rumschlag this time, since my last few car "incidents" involved me going to visit them. Or maybe I *can* blame Rumschlag since I am going to Columbus tomorrow. Hmmmm... I just hope that the other insurance company doesn't try to say their driver was not at fault... it should be pretty clear, though. Oh, my poor cursed car... Little Choirboys and Little Unions So, Boing Boing linked to an article about everyone's geek hero and his newest fight involving his own past. Wow, that takes guts. No pedophilia jokes here. Anyway, on the New York Metro site is an equally interesting article about the fight to unionize Starbucks. Ok, so the IWW is a bit nutty, but I do like the "join at any time" way of getting around anti-union activities. Modern unions are kind of sad, actually. The more I personally deal with unions, the less I like or trust them. I guess I shouldn't get into any specifics about any current or former employment, though. Such an important safeguard is so easily corrupted when they actually get power. Posted at 09:10:59 PM EST by copus
Ribs and Robots It's official. My first work trip is next week. St. Louis, here I come. Hopefully I won't make a complete ass of myself out there. I tend to have that habit. So, anyway, this THURSDAY is the most kick-butt entertainment event in Columbus (barring OSU-Texas later this year). That's right, the FEH ROBOT COMPETITION. Not only can you see robots run into walls over and over and fail to start up, you can also sneak a peak at such personalities as Beams, Raj, Patty, and Me. If you can't make that, maybe you should try to attend the Cleveland Rib-Fest on Friday. That features Flogging Molly and, yet again, Me. I, however, do not perform punk music on stage. Revenge of the Nerds.... err... Sith Ok, I've said it before, but since when did the President of the Ukrainebecome a Sith Lord? I personally liked the movie, although I think Padme is a bit of a wuss... I mean, in some parts of the U.S., domestic violence is almost a mating ritual. I do like this guy's take on the movie, though: http://www.aquick.org/blog/2005/05/19/lessons-learned-from-revenge-of-the-sith Posted at 08:42:29 PM EST by copus
Brain Filter Dropped Quote of the day at work: Said to two ladies discussing the high percentage of lesbians on their fast pitch softball teams: "I don't have a problem with gay men... that's less competition for me. And I don't have a problem with gay women... well, because that's kinda hot." I guess it means I'm getting comfortable at work when I'm losing that filter between my brain and my mouth again.... Some possible weekend plans, btw... Posted at 10:05:46 PM EST by copus
Kill Bill's Furniture! Some random thoughts for the day: Maybe Dave Thomas should have spent more money taking care of his liver than taking care of Boban. Actually, I sort of have my doubts about this claim. Not that I don't think plenty of shady stuff is going on in this case, but since when did Salyers suddenly decide that she was suddenly an expert at interpreting NCAA rules? And, of all rules, why was this the one she was going to enforce... as opposed to doing students' schoolwork for them or giving them cash herself? And, to top it all off, Dave Thomas was never really known as an OSU fan, much less a booster. Very shady, indeed. Anyway, I'm looking at getting some furniture. Nothing fancy... I want to wait until after I have a house/condo/cardboard box and actually buy furniture that sort of fits in the space alloted and matches for once. I'm just not much of a fan of my recliner that doesn't recline and my sofa that is too short for me to nap on. Maybe I'll just buy a papasan chair.... something cheap and comfy. I was already informed by someone at work that I am not allowed to buy a futon since I'm out of college. Whatever. I've decided that I *have* to have the circular couch from Kill Bill Vol. 2. So now I need to find a circular living room to put it in. Too bad Akron doesn't have any abandoned nuclear missile silos. That would be perfect. And just think of how dark you could get it for a home theater setup. Posted at 07:27:12 PM EST by copus
Creepy Barbie You know, I occasionally get these nutty ideas (or leech onto someone else's nutty ideas) to hack something or build some strange "art" project.... usually it never gets finished and gets thrown onto the island of lost souls (aka my closet). Never, ever, in any way, shape, or form have I *ever* thought about creating a Menstruating Barbie. And you all should be glad I didn't think of it. Although now it makes me think I should not finish that "horny Furbie" project.... In other news: The lawsuit that got Jim O'Brien fired was dismissed... due to a technicality. OSU's athletic department's academic rating got revised.... lower and an OSU kicker (and former FEH student, I guess) was arrested. Oh, well, I'll get back to watching this PBS Frontline about Ohio's prison system being used as mental asylums. Posted at 07:03:53 PM EST by copus
Saint Who? It looks like I'll soon start heading out to St. Louis for work. Maybe as soon as next week. I'm not completely sure what I'll be doing.... and I'm definitely not sure what I'll be doing outside of work when I'm there. Any suggestions? Anyone still living there (unlike that bastard John P Neyer)? Posted at 10:23:07 PM EST by copus
No time for blogs... No time to write... too busy watching my golf game not improve... and exacerbating my allergies. Posted at 10:21:11 PM EST by copus
Feliz Cinco de Holocaust Remembrance Mayo! Wow, what a downer. Cinco de Drunko and Holocaust Remembrance Day together. So, to completely avoid that subject, we'll just talk about the murky origins of the surname "Copus." I have heard that it's Old English, Welsh, and German. Oh, and Dutch. Some bartender thought it might be a derivative of the Dutch name "Kobas." But today I think I found the best definition: COPUS. “Of mighty ale, a large quarte.”—Chaucer. The word copus and the beverage itself are both extensively used among the men of the University of Cambridge, England. “The conjecture,” says the Gradus ad Cantabrigiam, “is surely ridiculous and senseless, that Copus is contracted from Epis_copus, a bishop, 'a mixture of wine, oranges, and sugar.' A copus of ale is a common fine at the student's table in hall for speaking Latin, or for some similar impropriety.” Also, I found that Copus was a common last name back in Rome during the Empire. Oh, and there's also the Committee for the Public Understanding of Science (COPUS). I used to get a lot of their email by accident. And TWO(!) bands named Copus, at copus.net and copusband.com. Oh, and some poet. Oh, and not to mention my great great great great grandfather's saga that is now part of a rather mediocre outdoor drama. Posted at 09:57:00 AM EST by copus
advent, christmas, EPIPHANY, lent There's an interesting conversation going on on Elena's blog about white liberal guilt and building homes for the unwashed brown people. In other news, I had a sort of epiphany today. Why should I sit around wondering what I should do with my career when my very own company is designing the coolest stuff in the world RIGHT NOW. So, maybe I should try to transfer over to Space Systems if I don't feel like this is the place to be. I expect this life-changing epiphany to last about three more minutes, until the sugar buzz from a handful of semi-sweet chocolate chips wears off. Posted at 09:09:58 PM EST by copus

Comments for Great Justice! Well, I'm still waiting for Beams to write a new haiku voter. And rather than write one myself, I thought I'd play with a comment feature. Just in case anyone ever felt the need to tell me what an idiot I am for writing my crap. Posted at 09:43:58 PM EST by copus
