History repeats itself at ever higher levels Hmmm.... a guy named Josh Mandel is running for State Representative. Now why does that name seem familiar to me? Oh, yeah, he used to be Undergraduate Student Government President. I believe he was the one who thought putting a huge inflatable gorilla on the Oval was a great campaign idea. He also might have been the first (or so I remember him claiming) two-term USG President. I also remember that he used The Saver for free pre-election publicity, which got them in campaign finance trouble. Oh, and also got votes taken away for wearing campaign T-Shirts and such before the "allowed" start date of campaigning. And gave away fortune cookies to prospective voters. And totally dominated the small, silly, place that was student government for two years. And I *STILL* disliked him the least of all the USG Presidents in my lengthy tenure as a student. I mean, at least he wasn't forced to resign for financing his parties with student government funds. And then blaming his minions for the theft of 10,000 copies of the student newspaper edition that broke the story. Don't blame me, I voted for Jones and Jones. I took the opportunity to take a few more pictures of the potentially future abode: I've been told the guy standing on the roof does not come with the house. The updated pictures start at DCP_0075.JPG. In summary, the electrical wiring looks a little suspect, and there seems to have been some water damage in the past. I just have to keep telling myself that it's an old house, and it's not going to be perfect. Link to this article Posted at 08:48:31 PM EST by copus
Dates and Data I was packing up some books for this (likely) upcoming move, and I found an old "Dates and Data" organizer from the 2000-2001 school year. Why did I save this? Oh, that's right, I'm on the cover:
Man, this is one of those times I wish I had my scanner working again. I'll worry about that *after* the move. Anyway, if you look at the top left corner, there's a blurry guy with blue jeans and a red shirt. Look familiar? Ok, if he doesn't look familiar, maybe you know that guy in the bottom right corner who looks vaguely Mexican, but blonde? I guess it helps to know the editor of the planner. I should try to get this scanned in sometime, so you can see Raj at his total non-bald, non-bearded coolest. Link to this article Posted at 01:01:31 PM EST by copus
No Sense of Satire It appears the week of random movies continues. Except this time, the movie is from what *appears* to be Tom Delay's Legal Defense website. Hmmm... they use Stephen Colbert to logically defend Delay's illegal political moves. Ummm... do they realize that is a comedy show? A comedy show that was making FUN of Tom Delay when they aired that piece? Wow. It sounds like his legal trust is lacking something. Like a CLUE. The Week of Random Movies Continues with a VENGEANCE For those of you never to experience the joy of the defunct sketch comedy show The State, you should watch Stella or Reno 911. However, if you still want to experience a taste of the bizarre comedy stylings that so shaped my teenage years, YouTube yet again complies: I'm scared to death of Snuggles the bear... and the Amish: Opening Credits Superfriends Muppet Hunter (brilliant AND tasty!) The (brief) Hot Dog Sketch The most painful taco-related comedy sketch ever made: Taco Mailman Also sort of drawn out and painful: The Bearded Men of Space Station 11 International signs can save a life: International Signs For some strange reason, I'm pretty sure this is where my obsession with pants (and the Breeders) comes from: The Pants Sketch. Awww... yeah: Barry and Levon, and then Barry and Levon with $240 of Pudding Tenament: Censored Possibly the most well-known sketch ever to show on The State: Louie! Louie versus Terrorism Louie at the Last Supper. Link to this article Posted at 09:41:20 PM EST by copus
Take a Chance and Dance and PRANCE I could spend my time complaining about the fact that a stone hit and chipped my windshield on my way to sign documents that will put me in massive debt soon. Or I could complain that after I got home from signing said papers, I checked my mail and found that my car insurance had gone up by $250 a year. Or I could just link the most popular dance video going around: The Evolution of Dance. Also: Forget hundreds of years of genocide, this is the main reason why Native Americans are so bitter: You do not realize how much I want to be that guy. So confident. So versatile. So HAPPY. It must be all the cocaine. Link to this article Posted at 09:11:11 PM EST by copus

Taking the Plunge So, 10+ house viewings later, the first house I actually made a request to view happens to be the first one I make a bid on. Once I stop having panic attacks about going into massive debt, I'll provide more details. I mean, assuming I actually get the house. You can look at some really quick pics I took here. I focused on taking pictures of things that might be flawed or I might have problems with, so don't assume the place is in bad shape. It really looks much better than I would have you believe. I hope. Jeez. Link to this article Posted at 11:35:34 PM EST by copus Aleck passes the savings on to YOU So, last weekend was Rick and Amy's wedding. In a bid to save money, four of us shared a hotel room. Unfortunately, Aleck doesn't quite know how to share a bed: ![]() And apparently the Rumschlags like to capture these moments for posterity. Blimptastic Stories of the Week I had a big lunch and am feeling bloated, so that means it's time to talk about BLIMPS. Specifically, the top rejected names for the new Goodyear Blimp, and a neat little article about the High Altitude Airship. Right now, I feel like I ate one of these for lunch. I hope it didn't contain any crunchy surveillance equipment. Link to this article Posted at 02:04:46 PM EST by copus
Have I killed any puppies today Take a look at The Skeletor Show. I didn't realize it was quite so easy to produce a film of the same length, breadth, and quality as Adult Swim. I'm in the wrong line of business. Link to this article Posted at 06:41:06 PM EST by copus
Choose your own Mistake I looked at some houses today. Out of six, I would only consider buying two of them. One is a bit more expensive, and would need the windows replaced and a little other work done to it. It seems to be a good investment, though. The other house is somewhat cheaper, somewhat smaller, and would require very little work. And it has by far the better of the two kitchens. And I spend a lot of the time barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. Of course, the smaller home also has little room for upgrades, and would be a bit harder to sell, especially since it lacks a basement. Oh, the decisions. Of course, I'm still looking at other places where I can sink my fortunes. At least I get to ponder these decisions while serving my jury duty tomorrow. Hilarious Hypocrisy Here's a neat little article about how George W. Bush used to sing the Star Spangled Banner in Spanish at campaign events. You know, before it was wrong to do so. Link to this article Posted at 09:22:20 PM EST by copus
