Comments for Great Justice! Well, I'm still waiting for Beams to write a new haiku voter. And rather than write one myself, I thought I'd play with a comment feature. Just in case anyone ever felt the need to tell me what an idiot I am for writing my crap. Rant about Beams's incompetence here. ;-) Posted at 09:42:02 PM EST by copus
From the archives... Vol 1. Update on haiku contest... 13 or so brilliant entries, waiting for JB Func to write a new voting tool. I don't have a lot to say, so I'm posting from my blog archives. Enjoy! November 9, 1991: I think The Simpsons run is almost over. It's been a good couple of years, but I really think The Simpsons has lost the magic of its first season. I can't imagine this show lasting a lot longer. On the other hand, there's this other brilliant show called Dinosaurs that should provide DECADES of enjoyment. I mean, "Not 'da Mama!" is comedy GOLD! Totally rad! How can "The Bartman" carry The Simpsons for another new season? They've pretty much run out of creative juice. Long live Dinosaurs! Posted at 08:48:07 PM EST by copus
Haiku Contest Returns (hopefully) Ok, it's time to try out another round of haiku contests. Those of you who are familiar with the good old days of my AOL Instant Messenger away messages (as in, back when people actually read them), I used to run an occasional haiku contest. So, anyway, here are the rules: Multiple Entries Encouraged The THIRD line should be, "Club all baby seals." Heck, you can make EITHER the first or third line "Club all baby seals." I just want submissions, dammit! The winner will receive some work-related shwag I've got laying around. How to submit: Send me an email or an IM with the submission... make sure to put your name with it, too... things can get a little mixed up. Sending me an IM would be the best way, but if you don't have that, submit it at haikusubmission@copus.org. When I deem that enough submissions have been gathered and I'm not likely to get any more, we'll have a happy little vote to see who's is the best. Posted at 09:27:19 PM EST by copus
Yank is Rank Rank and Yank. I don't have a problem with evaluating and ranking employees. But I *do* have a problem with assuming that everything follows a bell curve and you have to assign a certain percentage of employees a certain rank. It also bothers me that a certain percentage of employees *have* to be fired. Oddly enough, though, I kind of feel that too few employees at the various jobs I've held get low ratings or terminated. I guess I think (competent) managers should be able to evaluate people with more freedom than they're given. On the other hand, managers are pretty likely to evaluate "friends" however they want no matter what the constraints they have. So, yet again, whatever the scheme, it all comes down to who you know and how much people are willing to stick up for you. Things were so much easier back when a person's evaluation was determined by whether the lion ate them or they ate the lion. Maybe we should make lions and bears our managers. That would be sweet. Rank and Yank, my ass. Eat or be Eaten. THAT's the way. Posted at 08:24:28 PM EST by copus

Leach/Leech Sigh.... I spell things right in my own world... Posted at 10:16:10 PM EST by copus Tribute to Billy Carter Everyone's favorite Presidential black sheep. Think of him as like Jenna Bush, except that she works it on the dance floor, and he worked for the Libyans. We can only hope that there will be another stroke of marketing genius in this world as brilliant as Billy Beer. Hats off you to you, Billy Carter, proof that a great life can be made from leaching off the talented members of your family. Posted at 09:57:24 PM EST by copus
Papal Travesty!!! I am still in shock over not being selected as Pope. I really thought I had a shot, and my inside sources told me that not being Catholic and not being a priest really wouldn't hurt me that much. I can give you three quick reasons why I would have made a pretty darn good pope: I was never a member of the Hitler Youth I would have named myself Rocky V, which is a much easier numeral to decipher than XVI. My Sistene Chapel parties would have been MUCH cooler than at least two thirds of the previous popes. A travesty, I say! Posted at 08:09:37 PM EST by copus
ABC's in the House That was the title of a children's book I had to write back in High School. It was a classic work of... well.. of at least trying not to copy any copywrited material, unlike most of the other kids. All I remember is that this was one of those rare houses that had a Xylophone in it. Anyway, I toured a house I really like today. Unfortunately, it's about 35 thousand dollars more than I'd like to spend. And everyone I've talked to reminds me that the area isn't exactly the type where I should be paying that much for a house. But it's perfect. And within walking distance of work... and has a patio and a balcony. And oak hardwood floors. Oh, well... I don't even know if I want to stay in Akron quite yet..... The job that just keeps on giving.... It seems like my old TA job keeps coming back to revisit me. I went to hang out with a former FEH TA last weekend, and 4 other ones showed up. I guess it helps that they keep marrying each other, so they come in two's. Then I went to visit the robot competition course for this year. I think it involves My Favorite Martian or something. And then another former FEH TA started working at my facility this week (I'll be nice and not link to her picture here, unlike when I passed the link around at work... I'm such a dick...). In celebration, I'll point out that a lot of that old TA crowd have their blogs on David Bradway's Pimp RSS Blog Aggregator. Because just having his own blog isn't geeky enough... he has to write something to pull together all his friends' blogs. Posted at 10:00:29 PM EST by copus

My Living Will Recent events have prompted me to declare my intentions if I were to become unable to communicate my wishes: If put on life support, any breathing/feeding apparatus should not be removed until at least a month after being declared dead. I should be wheeled to all social events that I would normally be invited to. I should also be well-dressed for all social events, preferably wearing a party hat and sunglasses. And, of course, one of my trademark Hawaiian shirts. Any foods/drinks served should be well blended for the feeding tube. After finally being declared deceased, I'm not requiring to actually be taxidermied, but I should be stored in one of those vacuum-sealed plastic bags you see on those infomercials. This should also not effect my current party schedule. I would also prefer to be kept on a feeding tube in this state. I guess I would look sort of like a Capri Sun.... Posted at 11:47:24 PM EST by copus Happy Spring??? Well, I woke up in Lakewood this morning (long story), and there were multiple inches of snow on the ground. Welcome to springtime in Ohio! One of my old college EE peeps sent me this comment: Have you heard of "Progress for America"? I think it was the first really big 527, founded by Tony Feather, who was chair of bush's 2000 campaign I think. Well, today, I was listening to the local NPR affiliate, WAMU, and they announced that they were being underwritten by none other than Progress for America. It's really weird. I wonder if they are trying to get some sort of credibility by garnering non-negative recognition through the ears of unwitting lefties. I feel like this should be reported on some political blog somewhere but I'm not sure where. Interesting... I'm not a political blog, but I can still post it... for *both* readers out there ;-) And if something approaching a serious discussion here bothers you, enjoy yourself with this link: New Penguin Species Found!
